About
14 miles from I-15 exit 347 on the Ogden Canyon road (UT-39) is Pineview
Reservoir. Almost all the northern Utah canyons are beautiful when the aspens
turn gold in September. Looking at the sight of the shimmering aspens leaves
across a lake just adds a little more to the pleasure.
Turn
left on Hwy 158 and follow it around the west shore of the lake to Eden. Turn
right and continue around the eastern shore back to Hwy-39 at Huntsville. Turn
left, again, and return to I-15.
If
you're driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle, an alternative route from Pineview
Reservoir is to continue north from Eden, through Liberty, over the hump to
Logan in Cache Valley. This is really a beautiful drive. The road, though
unpaved on the north side of the summit, is usually good. If there is snow on
the ground around Liberty, though, this is not a recommended route.
Another
alternate route is to continue east on Hwy-39 to Woodruff, head north on Hwy-16
to Hwy-30 (about 18 miles). Turn left (west) on 30 following it around the south
and west shore of Bear Lake to Garden City. Turn left on US-89 and enjoy the
drive through Logan Canyon. At Logan, follow US-91 south to I-15 at exit 364
(Brigham City).
