Fall Creek Falls State
Park is one of the most scenic destinations in the country. Fall Creek Falls,
at 256 feet, is the highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Most of the
park is covered with oak and hickory trees so it is a truly great reward for
leaf lookers.
Every October, usually
about the third weekend, the folks in Pikeville put on the Mountain Folk
Festival which is held in the Fall Creek Falls State Park. It just so happens that this is frequently the peak of the fall colors season.
From Cookeville (and
folks coming from the west on I-40), take exit 287 (Hwy-111) and head south,
through Spencer, to Hwy-284. Turn left and in a few moments you'll enter the
Park.
For folks coming from
the east on I-40, take exit 322, head into Crossville and turn left on US-127.
Follow it south to Pikeville (about 29 miles) and turn right on Hwy-30. Follow
30 west, through Mount Crest, to Hwy-284. Turn left and in a few moments
you'll enter the Park.
Folks coming up from
the Chattanooga area should take the US-27 freeway to the exit after the
Soddy-Daisy exit and turn left on Hwy-111. Then enjoy a leisurely drive with
splendid views of the fall colors along this beautiful road, past US-127, to
Hwy-284. Turn right and in a few moments you'll enter the Park.
