Another rewarding
side trip from US-6 in Western Pennsylvania is a loop around the southern end
of the Allegheny Reservoir. Assuming you chose a nice autumn day for your
drive, you will find several very attractive picnic areas along this drive.
If you are
westbound on US-6 turn right on Highway 321 just before entering the community
of Kane. (This is about 7½ miles west of the intersection of US-219 at Lantz
Cors.) Follow 321 to its intersection with Hwy-59. Turn left on 59, follow it
to and across the Reservoir, then by the Kinzua Dam, rejoining US-6 at
Rogertown (about 3 miles from Warren).
If you are
eastbound on US-6, just follow the river. At Rogertown, US-6 bends to the
right. This is the intersection of Hwy-59. Just past the Kinzua Dam is a
scenic overlook called Jakes Rocks Overlook. Continuing east on 59 to Hwy-321,
you'll turn right and follow 321 back to US-6 at Kane.
