A little bit to the
east of Rock Creek Park is Wheaton Regional Park. Just off Glenallan Avenue is
a very special place: Brookside Gardens. As this name implies, it does contain
some gardens in addition to a small forest of Japanese maples which burn
crimson bright in October. Enjoy the multi-colored mums and the remaining
dahlias as well as the traditional autumn colors of the leaves.
There is another
special treat at Brookside Gardens. There are two ponds each with small
islands. On the islands are a pavilion and a recreation of a Japanese tea
house. Sit for some moments and enjoy nature's splendor.
Brookside Gardens also
has two conservatories containing a wide variety of collections (including a
great butterfly collection). They even host weddings if you have one in your
plans. For more information, phone them at 301-949-8230 or visit their
official web site at: Brookside
Gardens
Take exit 4A from
I-270 and follow Montrose Road (MD-183) east, through Rock Creek Park, to
Glenallan Avenue. (Glenallan is the second road on your right after you cross
Georgia Ave (MD-97). Turn right on Glenallan and the Brookside Gardens will be
on your right.
