One of the many
reasons the autumn leaves are so beautiful in the Ozarks is that there is
plenty of water - even in times of drought. The view of the autumn leaves on
the opposite shore of a lake adds to the enchantment. That is just the view
you'll have in this loop - and several times.
Starting at Mountain
Home, head west on US-62/412 to Flippin. Turn right (north) on Hwy-178 and
follow it through Bull Shoals, then crossing the bridge below the Bull Shoals
dam, through Lake View to Midway.
At Midway, turn left
(north) onto Hwy-5 and follow it into Missouri to US-160. Turn right (east)
and follow US-160 through Gainesville to Tecumseh where you wil cross Norfork
Lake. Continue on to Caulfield and Hwy-101. Turn right (south) on 101 and
follow it to Bakersfield. There, Hwy-101 makes a left (west). Continue
following 101, back into Arkansas through Gamalial and, continuing, across the
long bridge over Norfork Lake to the junction of US-62/412. To return to
Mountain Home, turn right.
