Many people are surprised to learn that the stretch of I-40 between Alma and Russellville is a choice stretch of highway from which to view our Autumn leaves. Being a controlled access divided highway, it is much safer than the two-lane roads usually traveled for this purpose. (Of course, the driver still is urged to watch the road but, perhaps, you can swap drivers at one of the exits.)

A variation of this route - if you would like to 2-lane it for part of the way - is to exit I-40 in Russellville at Hwy-7 (exit 81), and head toward down town. Turn left on Hwy-326 (about 300 feet from the freeway) and follow 326 to US-64. Turn right onto 64 and follow it to Knoxville Junction. Turn right to get back on I-40 (there is a sign pointing to it) and then continue your drive on the Interstate.
